At this years Jersey
Filmmakers of Tomorrow / Fort Lee Film Commission Dinner the production
team of Anytown, USA (slated for NJ theatrical release December
9th 2005) was cited for their contributions to documentary filmmaking
excellence through various proclamations lauding their contributions
by the office of the Governor, NJ State Legislature, and the Town
of Fort Lee who declared November 12, 2005 Anytown, USA Day. On
hand to receive the awards were Director Kristian Fraga, Executive
Producer, Marc Perez, Producers, John Sikes and Juan Dominguez,
and Associate Producer Costa Michalakis.
Thelma Schoonmaker
who has edited some of the most popular films of the last 30 years
was awarded the Barrymore Award by the Fort Lee Film Commission
of New Jersey. Over 200 people were in attendance to include High
School Filmmakers who were the focus of the evening. During her
acceptance speech Ms. Schoonmaker encouraged all of the filmmakers
in the audience to make films that were important to them, a lesson
learned early on through her numerous collaborations with the
legendary director, Martin Scorcese. The Student Filmmaker award
for Best Film capped off the evening and was awarded to Director
Josh Weinberg for the short film Court Kings. The festival directors
plan on expanding next years festival and making it a statewide
competition. Anytown, USA opened the festival on October 21st
at the Cedar Lane Theater in Teaneck, New Jersey; over 300 people
were in attendance for the North Jersey premiere.
