Severe Clear is a unique motion picture that offers an unflinching look at life on the battlefield through the eyes of the soldiers who were there. Shot by First Lieutenant Michael T. Scotti on his consumer Mini-DV camera, Severe Clear is more than just a movie; it is a first person historical document chronicling the untold story of the Marines who were on the front lines of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Unlike documentaries such as Gunner Palace , Occupation: Dreamland , and The War Tapes , the footage used to create Severe Clear was never shot for the purpose of making a movie. These are the raw sounds and images of one soldier's video journal, capturing his epic journey across the globe as he comes face to face with death, destruction and what it truly means to be a United States Marine.
In this digital age of embedded reporters and filmmakers directing their "war" pictures from the internet, Severe Clear strips the barriers between audience and soldier, personalizing the fear, moral conundrum and adrenaline rush of life on the battlefield.
This film is not about politics and is not an indictment or confirmation of President Bush and his administration's foreign policy. Nor is the question of whether or not we should be in Iraq the focus of this picture. The personal story of Mike Scotti and the Marines in his unit is the backbone of this intimate, extreme and often times horrific tale.
